Hello Students!
Please follow this link, and make sure you are on a computer with speakers (and preferably one where you can speak into a microphone and record your own voice). Compare the sounds in these two links.

Play the recordings of the sounds and repeat what the speaker says to practice the pronunciation. Also, on the right side of the page you will see that you can record your own voice (painful but so helpful for you!!!) and listen to yourself. Pay close attention to the short i sound on the first link, as that seems to be one of the most troublesome for many students.
After you have listened to the examples, please post a comment telling us what you thought about the website, the assignment, and the sounds you were practicing. Did you record your own voice? Did that seem to help?
Thank you and have (or, hope you had) a good weekend!
Whitney

I recorded my own voice and it helped me a lot to listen what I really said. But the pronunciation of the i sound is still very difficult. I think the website is a good way to practice the english pronunciation for foreigner's students. I saved this website in my favorites to practice another day.
ReplyDeleteI really like this website! Normally, you can listen the right way to say the sentence, but I've never listen my own voice speaking in English. I've already done both, "e" and "i", but I am still getting the amercian accent... Thanks for the website, Whitney!
ReplyDeletefinally i suceeded to record my own voice. it's really good to hear yourself speaking and to improve your pronunciation.
ReplyDeleteI liked this system, it was very strange at first to hear my own voice! But it was interesting because like that we can see what is wrong, we can compare with the other recording, this website is a great idea for students like us!
ReplyDeleteAAAAH I cannot record myself! When I push the button, nothing happens!
ReplyDeletethanks for trying/succeeding guys! sorry mathilde :( we'll do it again with different sounds too.
